The Houston Chapter of Active Heroes™ today announced a first-of-its-kind competition in Houston in which members of each military branch will "Stand at Attention" all day to raise donations for military families struggling with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Stand at Attention veterans representing the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy will compete against one another to stand at the all-day event for bragging rights – and to help fellow soldiers. Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, the veterans will begin their long stint of standing at attention and accepting charitable donations near the clock tower in Memorial City Mall at 303 Memorial City Way in Houston. They will remain standing until the last veteran stops, or if all are still standing, 8 p.m.
Houston is one of the first cities to help expand the "Stand at Attention Competition" nationally. The event was started four years ago by Active Heroes, a 501c3 organization that has helped more than 1,800 military families who have struggled with PTSD. All donations from the September 6th event will go to Active Heroes and its ongoing effort to develop a one-of-its-kind military family retreat in Shepherdsville, KY. It is estimated that 22 veterans commit suicide each day – and the Houston Chapter of Active Heroes hopes Houstonians will stand together in big numbers to raise funds for the effort.
