Houston Business Journal Poll Highlights Cyberattack Risks

The latest edition of Houston Business Journal Pulse polls includes a question about how cybersecurity has impacted local businesses. Specifically, the Business Journal asks -- how protected is your business against a cyberattack?

The question is one that once plagued IT professionals but now is increasingly posed to C-level executives. With new regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), business leaders in legal, human resources, and marketing fields are more attuned to data security than ever before.

The Houston Business Journal poll is a great jumping off point for business leaders looking to better understand the latest cybersecurity threats and regulations. Other questions that should be considered include:

What steps have been taken to protect user data?

What is the current process for accessing and managing user data?

What steps can be taken to improve user data security?

As cybersecurity investments point to continued sector growth, businesses large and small need to commit resources to defending against cyberattacks. Taking the proper steps to protect user data today very well could avoid costly non-compliance fines in the future.
